Comprehensive Wound Care Solutions

Our Treatment Options

Chronic Non-healing Wounds

A wound is considered non healing if it has not reduced in size by 50% in 4 weeks. Once it has passed that marker, it is considered a chronic wound. Giving a wound the proper environment and addressing factors impeding healing help get the wound on the proper tract to healing.

Chronic Bone Infections

There are three main approaches to bone infection: IV antibiotics, bone debridement or combination of IV antibiotics and debridement. We will arrange treatment with infectious disease specialists and a surgeon to optimize your outcome and prevent further bone loss. The use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy has proven to be synergistic with use of IV antibiotics to assist with removal of a bone infection.

Venous Leg Ulcers

When the valves in your veins fail they cause pooling of blood in your legs. Eventually you will get a sore that drains a lot and will not heal. We work with your lifestyle to provide compression to get you healed, and then work with you to keep you healed.

Arterial Ulcers

When you don’t have proper blood supply to an area, you will develop painful sores that will not heal. After an initial evaluation we work with our trusted vascular surgeons to obtain options to get more blood to your tissues.

Skin Grafts

Split thickness skin grafts (STSG) take a thin shaving of skin from a part of the body, using a mesher to enlarge it, we apply it to a healthy wound bed to assist in healing it quicker. AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine is the only place where this can be done in an outpatient wound clinic setting. However, if the wound size is greater than 100 sq cm, we will work with our surgical team to have this done in the operating room.

Muscle Flaps

Patients with large tissue loss due to pressure ulcers or trauma require the assistance of plastic surgery to move muscle to allow the tissue defect to heal. Muscle flaps are complicated and require a significant amount of preparation of tissues, nutrition, and post operative follow up. We will prepare you for outcome maximization of your flap and work closely with one of our plastic surgeons to coordinate your surgery.

Burns

Depending on the size and location of the burn, we can care for this in the outpatient wound clinic. Complex or large burns require admission to the hospital with surgical reconstruction. For thermal, electrical, or chemical burn of a smaller size, we will prescribe proper dressings to be done at home and assist with removal of unhealthy tissues in the wound clinic. This will expedite your ability to heal.

Traumatic Wounds

From road rash to large tissue defects, we care for complex wounds that may or may not require surgery. After a trauma occurs swelling, pain and bleeding need to be addressed. We work with you to improve your tissue quality to allow the traumatized tissues heal quickly.

Lymphedema

Lymphedema can be one sided or both sided. We have multiple forms of edema wraps to assist with whatever level of lymphedema you may be dealing with. We perform serial wraps on a weekly basis to assist with removal of excess lymphatic fluid. Once we reach an optimal size, we work with you to find the best method of controlling your lymphedema. This may be in the form of compression stockings, lymphedema pumps, or a combination of both. We work with each person’s mobility to find a treatment option that best fits your needs.

Colostomy - Ileostomy + Ileo Conduits

One of the only ostomy clinics in Arizona, we work closely with our ostomy certified wound nurses to have you fitted and problem solve your ostomy. If you are having problems with leaking, or skin ulcer/irritation please make an appointment with our ostomy nurse. We can order ostomy supplies once you establish care for home delivery.

Amputation Complications

Unfortunately it is all too common to see a prosthetic or AFO causing skin irritation or breakdown. We will work with your prosthetist to adjust your prosthetic and work with you to maximize your mobility while healing your wound.

Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections

Devastating soft tissue infection that remove a large portion of your tissues require close follow up in wound clinic and coordination with home health. We perform daily hyperbaric oxygen therapy to maximize your tissues to improve in quality and heal at a faster rate. If needed, we work closely with our surgeons to skin graft or reconstruct when the tissues have been optimized.

Moisture Associated Skin Damage

Sometimes with ongoing incontinence issues we develop skin irritation that becomes a cycle of ongoing skin breakdown. We help put in place a treatment plan to minimize skin irritation and help protect the skin from recurrence of the problem.

Hematoma

After a trauma a vessel may rupture causing a collection of blood under the skin surface. This may result in tissue death above the hematoma or large collection of blood under the skin. It will need to be lanced and open to allow the blood to drain, followed by dressings to allow the tissues to heal.

Surgical Dehiscence

Complications after a surgery can happen to anyone. Sometimes a small part of the incision or the whole incision comes apart. We work with you and your surgeon to get your wound healed as soon as possible. Understanding that this impacts your day to day capabilities, we will put together a treatment plan that best fits your lifestyle. Cosmetic incision to Complex organ transplants, we treat them all.

Diabetic Foot Ulcer

Diabetic foot ulcers are a common complication of diabetes, often developing from minor injuries or pressure points on the feet. Without proper care, these ulcers can become infected and lead to serious issues, including amputation. Our clinic offers comprehensive treatment plans that address the underlying causes of these ulcers, focusing on wound care management, infection prevention, and optimizing blood flow to promote healing.

Radiation Ulcer

Radiation ulcers occur as a result of radiation therapy, typically in cancer treatment, where skin tissue becomes damaged and fails to heal. These ulcers can be painful and persistent. At our clinic, we use advanced wound care techniques to promote tissue regeneration, manage pain, and reduce further damage, offering a customized treatment approach that works alongside your overall care plan.

Allografts

Allografts, or donor skin grafts, are used to treat wounds that are not healing on their own, such as burns, diabetic ulcers, or traumatic injuries. By applying healthy donor tissue to a prepared wound bed, we accelerate the healing process and reduce the risk of infection. Our team specializes in using allografts to promote faster, more effective recovery for complex wounds.
