Patient Information and FAQs

Privately-owned and independent wound care and hyperbaric medicine clinic

Welcome to AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine – a privately owned wound care and hyperbaric medicine clinic with offices in Gilbert, Mesa, and North Phoenix. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about our care model, insurance, and what to expect at your first visit.

What makes AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine different?

At AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine, we provide advanced wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy in one convenient location.

Unlike hospital-based wound centers, our private practice model allows us to:

  • Offer same-day appointments and flexible scheduling – including weekly, daily, and same-day visits whenever possible.
  • Deliver personalized, patient-centered treatment plans without the bureaucracy of hospital systems.
  • Provide lower out-of-pocket costs, since we only bill professional (physician) fees, not hospital (facility) fees.
  • We offer flexible payment plans, and understand that life can present challenges that can, on occasion, make it difficult to pay the coinsurance or deductible at your appointment time. Our team will work with you to create a payment plan that works for your budget. Hospital-based clinics often don’t have the authority to make that decision at the clinic level because of corporate guidelines.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept many health insurance plans and can help you understand your coverage. Because we’re a private outpatient clinic, your co-pays and out-of-pocket costs are usually much lower than at hospital-based wound centers.

We work with most major insurance providers in Arizona, including:

  • AHCCCS
  • Aetna
  • Arizona Complete Health
  • Banner Health Network
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ)
  • Cigna
  • Gold Kidney Plans
  • Humana
  • Medicare
  • Mercy Care
  • UnitedHealthcare / Optum Network

If you don’t see your plan listed, please
contact us. We accept many additional insurance plans and can verify your coverage before your appointment.

How do I complete my new patient forms?

AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine is proud to be a division of Arizona Advanced Surgery. After scheduling your appointment, you’ll receive a secure link via text or email to complete your intake forms online through our patient portal:

You can upload documents, insurance cards, and complete your forms electronically on the portal. If you prefer printed forms, our staff can provide them at your first appointment or you can download patient forms here.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first appointment will last about one hour so we can get to know you, review your medical history, and evaluate your wound in detail.

  • Your medical and surgical history
  • Current medications and dosages (please bring a complete list with you)
  • Details of your wound and any prior treatments

If your wound is painful, please tell us – we can apply a topical numbing agent during your evaluation to make your visit more comfortable. Follow-up appointments are typically shorter and will be scheduled based on your individual treatment plan and rate of healing.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept all major forms of payment, including credit/debit cards, checks, and cash.

If you have a high deductible or coinsurance, our billing department can help set up custom payment plans to make care more affordable.

What is your appointment cancellation policy?

We understand that “life happens” and request 24 hours notice for cancellations. We are always happy to try to accommodate rescheduling as many of our patients need their wounds tended to weekly.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

No referral is required — we welcome patients with or without physician referrals.

What do I do in the event of an emergency?

While AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine provides comprehensive wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, we are not a 24/7 facility. During office hours, our team is available to answer urgent questions or help coordinate next steps in your care.

If your wound worsens suddenly, becomes severely painful, or you suspect infection outside of office hours, please seek immediate care at the nearest emergency room or urgent care. In case of life-threatening symptoms, call 911 immediately.

AZ Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine is a division of Arizona Advanced Surgery, providing evidence-based wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy under the direction of board-certified specialists.
